Elevating Female Voices and Cultivating Jazz Mastery
Moco Girls in Jazz was founded to address persistent historical gender disparities in jazz programs. While young women enthusiastically start in beginner music education, their representation sharply declines in intermediate combos, competitive big bands, and lead improvisational roles.
We provide middle school, high school, and pre-collegiate musicians with an empowering, judgment-free space to build technical mastery, explore complex harmonic theory, and step up to the solo microphone with courage.
Closing the Representation Gap
Creating dedicated ensemble and solo stages where young female brass, woodwind, rhythm, and vocal performers lead without hesitation.
Intergenerational Mentorship
Pairing middle school through college students directly with touring professionals, master educators, and collegiate bandleaders.
Improvisational Confidence
Cultivating a judgment-free rehearsal environment that treats musical risk-taking as the core foundation of authentic jazz expression.
